F-ZERO (SUPER NINTENDO)
Archived News 2002 2003
| Sunday [Aug-17-2003] | The GX update won't happen tonight because I'm working on building the spreadsheet. Here's a brief overview of the GX competition so far: David Van Moer is the only one to report a full set of times, he's the champ. Stephane "crAsh" Lemeunier has started playing, submitting course times for the first few tracks. We'll see much more activity once the game reaches North America in just over a week. Saturday [Aug-16-2003] | Sometimes ya just gotta shake your head and wonder. Thursday, just minutes before I was about to start making up for lost time on the site, the big power blackout hit. Ugh! My power was out for just over 20 hours. All is well now, and I've just completed the SNES update as a first step toward getting all the times caught up. I owe many thanks to the timekeepers, who are doing a great job despite my recent inability to show their work to the world. SNES times are updated through Thursday's 12pm Eastern USA deadline. GBA times are also now updated! It's almost the end of Saturday for me, but I have managed to get F-Zero X and Universal updated! Some times from after the deadline were included in the F-Zero X update. Now only GX remains to be updated on Sunday. Thursday [Aug-14-2003] | I know you guys are eagerly awaiting an update, and I feel terrible for not being able to provide one yet. I'm making it a top priority to get all times updated within the next few days. I may not get them all done at the exact same time as each other, but I'm sure that all games will be updated by Monday at the latest. Thursday [Aug-07-2003] | I apologize for not getting this week's news report posted. I've had a lot of personal things happening. Logan sent me his reports on time, this was entirely my doing. Due to a change in my work schedule (two jobs now), I'm going to have to move the weekly stats updates to Mondays. I'll post more here as soon as I work out a new schedule ... but I can say for sure that there won't be a stats update tomorrow because I'll be working. Friday [Aug-01-2003] | All stats updated. Many thanks to our new timekeepers, Nick Harsh (GBA) and Silas Verrinder (SNES). Welcome to the F-Zero Central team, guys!! Saturday [Jul-26-2003] | F-Zero (SNES) by Logan West Not a single new member this week! I know it was a pretty short week due to the different schedule but I'd at least expect one person to debut ahead of me, knocking my ranking down! No matter. Our Kings decided to take a monarch's leave and abstained from any kind of competition. Master/Expert: Our sole competing Master, Nathan Hahn (9th, Master A) moved forward two places and gained a fourth ranked Silence time (1'53"55)! Chris Wodarski (19th, Expert B) also moves up two, with quite a handful of PRs including sixth ranked Mute City III (2'00"23). J.D. Martin (22nd, Expert C) makes an impressive leap gaining five places and a fifth ranked Mute City III time (2'00"11), putting it in just ahead of Chris! Our Bishops and Knights all seem to have joined the Royalty on vacation. Pawn: Jonathan Mulder (41st, Pawn A) makes a number of improvements and gains a whopping eight places! Logan West (63rd, Pawn C) also makes a couple of improvements and crawls forward one position!!!!!! I don't hear any cheers. Oh well. Much thanks to all of you who DID compete this week! Friday [Jul-25-2003] | All stats are updated! ^_^ Tuesday [Jul-22-2003] | Before you read the news, here's a repeat "broadcast" of yesterday's request: TIMEKEEPERS NEEDED F-Zero Central is in need of timekeepers! This volunteer job requires entering times into Excel and e-mailing the spreadsheet to the webmaster each week. I will need at least two volunteers, and more than two might be accepted. Please write to the webmaster to apply. F-Zero (SNES) by Logan West Please welcome our sole new member this week: Masahiro of Japan! He debuts in Knight C at 37th place. Only six returning players this week, they all were busy with F-Zero X I suppose :) King: Simon Grier (6th, King C) moves ahead one position due to his five new times, including a pair of fourth ranked 5-lap times! Expert/Bishop: Chris Wodarski (21st, Expert C) moves up three positions! One of his best this week is a 16th ranked Big Blue lap! J.D. Martin (27th, Bishop B) moves up a solid four places by improving nearly all his times. Take a gander at his 14th ranked White Land I time (2'00"15). So close to breaking that 2'00"! Pawn/Novice: Olivier Holmičre (44th, Pawn A) has been slicing down his times for several weeks in a row and gains 11 places this week, improving nearly every single PR! Jonathan Mulder (49th, Pawn B) himself moves up 10 places, while Logan West (64th, Pawn C) just happened to find a few old times and moves out of Novice-dom! Much thanks to the few and the proud who have competed here this week, facing ridicule and even persecution (okay, maybe not that) to compete in F-Zero ... we salute you! Monday [Jul-21-2003] | All stats are updated. News report will come tomorrow or Wednesday. TIMEKEEPERS NEEDED F-Zero Central is in need of timekeepers! This volunteer job requires entering times into Excel and e-mailing the spreadsheet to the webmaster each week. I will need at least two volunteers, and more than two might be accepted. Please write to the webmaster to apply. Saturday [Jul-19-2003] | I'm back from my trip. All times will be updated on Monday ... so get your times sent in! ^_^ Wednesday [Jul-16-2003] | OK, I'm heading out for a few days to visit family. I'll be back Saturday night. I'll be able to check e-mail and visit the message board while I'm away, so I won't be totally out of contact. Remember, the next update is Monday!! ^_^ Monday [Jul-14-2003] | As I mentioned yesterday, there may be a few bugs to work out with the new location. The biggest problem happens to be with my e-mail. If you sent times Sunday or Monday and you don't see them posted on the message board, then they got lost along the way. Please re-submit ... the problem has now been corrected. Thank you. Sunday [Jul-13-2003] | F-Zero Central has just changed webhosts! This is definitely a change for the better, but there may be temporary bugs while we complete the change. If you find any problems browsing this site, please contact the webmaster so I can fix it right away. Thanks! ^_^ Saturday [Jul-12-2003] | SCHEDULING NOTE: I'll be out of town from Wednesday, July 16th through Saturday, July 19th. The next times update will be Monday, July 21st. For this update only, times will be accepted right up to the moment of the update, so send them as soon as you can after racing them! F-Zero (SNES) by Logan West A very exciting week here, Dave Phaneuf has offered to do the X update this week so be prepared for something phenomenal and not the accustomed drabness :) New Members: Eric Schippers is our sole "newb" (that's not derogatory) this week, joining at place number 65, with an impressive (at least to me) Fire Field time. Please welcome him. Eric is from the good ole USA and is at Pawn D for now. King/Master: Simon Grier (7th, King) moves up into the rarified air of Kingship with an impressive ten PRs this week and passes old-school gamer Sami Çetin. Anders Hammar (15th, Master) also moves up this week with three new times. Expert/Bishop: Dave Phaneuf (21st, Expert) moves up from Bishop, gaining five places this week! My rival from F-Zero: MV is showing some impressive abilities. Chris Wodarski (24th, Bishop) moves up four places and scores some very impressive times, a couple of 18th placed times as well as a 16th ranked lap on Big Blue (24"69). Also showing some large movement was J.D. Martin (31st, Bishop) who made an impressive seven place gain. Knight/Pawn: Armin Pristauz (32nd, Knight) shows some solid improvements, while Olivier Holmičre (55th, Pawn B) makes a nice 15 place gain, improving nearly all of his times. Jonathan Mulder (59th, Pawn C) remains active in his second week with us and pulls ahead 4 places. Many thanks to all of you and overall it was very impressive! Friday [Jul-11-2003] | 3:45am USA EDT ... The broken links on the GBA profiles have now been repaired. ^_^ Thursday [Jul-10-2003] | All stats are done a day early again, yay!! But don't get used to it. ;-) F-Zero GBA track ranking links from the profiles are temporarily broken. Please view the track rankings from the Records page until I can get the links fixed. Saturday [Jul-05-2003] | F-Zero (SNES) by Logan West New Members: We had another 4 startling additions to the F-Zero gang here, please welcome Joel Kumlin (23rd, Expert) who debuts with a 13th ranked Death Wind II time, J.D. Martin (38th, Knight) who has a 21st ranked Mute City I time (1'59"77), Clinton Yelvington (57th, Pawn C) who's best is a 2'24"30 on White Land II, and Jonathan Mulder (63rd, Pawn D). Welcome all! As a side note, every single one of these people has entered competition in a higher rank than, uh, well, figure it out. Poor me just drops lower and lower. To our returning members, here are the results of the heated weekly competition that rages across our globe, starting with: King / Master: Harold Christensen (3rd, King) the lad from France who has kept our attention with large gains in the top 10, he improves his worst lap this week, a select few of us wonder if that is a prelude to the unseating of even Van Moer..... Simon Grier (8th, Master) has made some startling leaps not in ranking, but on some of his personal records. He gained a 5th ranked Red Canyon II time (3'01"76) and now ranks third on his laps for both Mute City I AND Mute City III! The Brit could be making large gains in other levels soon.... Bishop: Dave Phaneuf (26th, Bishop) improves some times since he joined last week, most notably a 20th ranked lap on Mute City II (23"49). The Canadian has been keeping up and gained three places. His MV times suffer though..... Chris Wodarski (28th, Bishop) made quite a few minor improvements this week (13 total) but although he fought bravely, he lost one position this week. Pawn: Ryan Jenning (60th, Pawn C) also lost some ground this week, but also managed to get some decent PRs, including a 41st and 37th ranked best time and lap respectively on Red Canyon II. Thanks to all you dedicated racers. Friday [Jul-04-2003] | Stats fully updated, news report comes this weekend! Wednesday [Jul-02-2003] | You may have noticed change after change to our menus over the last couple of days. I've been working on implementing a Javascript menu system, but I haven't been able to find one that's compatible with all browsers. So in the near future this existing system AND a new Javascript system will be available ... simply bookmark which system you prefer to use. In the meantime, Dick "Splash" Grinwis has provided us with a new set of images for the menu. Do you like them? Sunday [Jun-29-2003] | This week saw a record level of activity at F-Zero Central! 23 GBA players, 14 SNES players, and 43 total players are all new high-water marks for us. F-Zero (SNES) by Logan West Three new members to the SNES fast times board, wow! We're becoming almost more popular than even F-Zero MV! 11 *whistles* returning players sweated it out this week, avidly playing F-Zero (most likely the favourite game of all time for each) and competing to see who would remain above who in the rankings. Here are the results you have all been waiting for: King: David Van Moer (1st, Champion) retains his newly acquired position and even slightly strengthens it, gaining four new times and setting two site records! Harold Christensen (3rd, King) maintains his gaining streak and moves up another position, mainly by working on some of his fast laps. Aliek Bertolucci (4th, King) jumps up a couple of positions (being previously in a measly ole 6th) by impressively improving six times and also 6 of his best laps. Of particular note is setting three times that rank 6th on the site! Master: Simon Grier (8th, Master) also performed in style by gaining three positions (not an easy task at this level). Of particular note is his new best lap for Red Canyon II, which ranks 4th on the site! Roland Pristauz (9th, Master) is another PAL player that did very well this week, moving up 4 positions to claim dominance over Simon Laflamme (note the unabashed attempt to stir up some competition :)) Expert: Anders Hammar (16th, Expert) improved two of his times. Wouter Jansen (17th, Expert). Ah yes! Our little GE friend has not forgotten us here at FZeroCentral! He chose this week to work on his Death Wind I times, and improved both statistics. Jensa Andersson (24th, Bishop) remains active with one new time. Chris Wodarski (27th, Bishop) is of special note, moving up 11 positions (!!) and also PRing just about every track and best lap. Next stop: Championship! lol :) Pawn/Novice: Ryan Jenning (57th, Pawn C) likewise improved almost all of his times and moved up 7 positions in the meanwhile. Logan West (67th, Novice) had to go and spoil this update by accomplishing next to nothing ;) He maintains his status as the lowest of the low: Novice. *drum roll* Please welcome these, our newest members of the Elitest of the Elite on FZeroCentral (boy I'm going to get mobbed by all you X and MV players for that): Sugi (15th, Expert) Dave Phaneuf (29th, Bishop) Olivier Holmičre (66th, Pawn D) Thanks to all! Friday [Jun-27-2003] | All stats are updated. A news summary will be posted over the weekend. Tuesday [Jun-24-2003] - ALL | Put your own photo in our new Members Gallery! In the Community section, we now have a place where we can put faces with the names, our own photo gallery of our members. Send your picture to the webmaster today! ^_^ Friday [Jun-20-2003] - ALL | Kort Everett Jackson and Michael Kircher devised the SA/C 2003 Tournament, and it is now underway! This week, race for all course and lap times with Hot Violet. Post your best results in the SA/C forum of our message board by 10am (USA Eastern time) Friday, June 27th. The following week we'll be racing with Fire Ball! F-Zero (SNES) by Logan West First off, how exciting it is to announce that we have a new champion! Seven members were active this week and four (!!!!) new players joined. What a week! David Van Moer (1st, Champion) of Belgium passed Leandro Ribeiro (2nd, King) in points but in overall time the Brazilian is still master. Sincere congratulations go out to David. This feat was not without its other achievements as well, it was accompanied by a full five (yes five!) new site records and three best lap records. One wonders if the PAL player managed to do this all in one week....... And while not setting any records, PAL player Harold Christensen (4th,King) of France also made a very impressive showing, tying the lap record for Death Wind I and moving up three places to set a foot down in the top 5! Simon Grier (11th, Master), 2nd best player from Great Britain, maintains status quo with 4 new PRs: two best lap improvements as well as two 5-lap improvements. Anders Hammar (16th, Expert) of Sweden also maintained his position with five new PR times. Another Swede, Jensa Andersson (24th, Bishop) leaped all the way from 51st place and Pawn C, completely by-passing Pawn B, Pawn A, and Knight! He bested all of his laps and all but two of his track times. Please welcome: Armin Pristauz (32nd, Knight) of Austria, Chris Wodarski (38th, Pawn A) of the USA, Jean-Sebastien Dubois (40th, Pawn A) of Canada, And David Fries (54th, Pawn C) of Germany. Thank you all for joining and may you all become world record holders! Also submitting times were Rich Luke (42nd, Pawn A) and Ryan Jenning (64th, Pawn D). Both from the USA. Thursday [Jun-19-2003] - ALL In a rare stroke of efficiency, we were able to get the stats completed Thursday evening instead of Friday! All stats are now updated for the week. In an attempt to maintain the depth of player news updates we've become used to, Logan "The Shadow" West will be helping out by writing F-Zero X and SNES news updates. I'll contribute the write-up for F-Zero MV and Universal. Look for the report this weekend! Dave Crawford Wednesday [Jun-18-2003] - SNES Hey, Super Nintendo racers! Do you play Super Mario Kart too? Check it out Sami Cetin's great SMK competition site . . . ![]() Super Mario Kart Time Trialers and World Records Site Friday [Jun-13-2003] - ALL TWO YEAR ANNIVERSARY!! Yes, it was two years ago today that this site began as the F-Zero Maximum Velocity Players Site. Two players (Dave Crawford and Kris Milo) and the desire to compete in time trials on the brand new Gameboy Advance version of F-Zero. That was all we had. Now F-Zero Central has 311 members, three different competitions, and an eye to the future with F-Zero GX on the horizon and the Universal competition to start soon. We've had two great years of growth, but I promise you ... we are just getting started! For reasons of space limitations and my sanity, I'm going to have to start making these news updates shorter. We're consistently getting 30+ players each week, and the research needed to give everyone credit for their accomplishments has become too time consuming. I'll still note all active players, but in a simpler table showing rank and gains, if any. F-Zero (SNES) Harold Christensen set a new PAL mark at Death Wind I (2'19"36)! Ryan Jenning joined SNES as well as N64 this week. Join at least one more chart (GBA and/or the upcoming F-Zero GX for Gamecube) and you'll get listed on our soon-to-be-created Universal Ranking page!!
Wednesday [Jun-11-2003] - ALL With the recent generous cash donation to F-Zero Central by Logan West, I'm reminded that I don't recall ever publicly thanking David Van Moer for his donation earlier this year. So I want to take a moment here to thank you both, your financial help is greatly appreciated!! It makes me want to do even more to make F-Zero Central the best competition site on the net! Friday [Jun-06-2003] - ALL F-Zero (SNES) The original F-Zero had more new members than the other games, with four newcomers in the past week! We are joined by Harold Christensen (France, Expert), Wouter Jansen (Netherlands, Pawn A), Pete Lantieri (USA, Pawn B), and Thorsten Fellberg (Germany, Pawn D). Welcome and good luck to you all!! Simon Grier earned Master status and climbed into the top ten with yet another excellent week of racing. Simon Laflamme (Master) bettered his Mute City I times (1'59"51, 22"62 NTSC). Anders Hammar (Expert) cut his Silence times (2'35"06, 29"12 PAL). Friday [May-30-2003] - ALL Even though this update is only for three days of racing, there's lots of news! F-Zero (SNES) With five new times, Simon Laflamme jumped ahead of Nathan Hahn and David Konst to reach 8th overall (Master). He had an excellent 1'53"94 run at Silence. Mike Nowak's 16 PRs earned him a promotion to Knight. He even got his first top ten NTSC time (22"44 Silence lap)! Rich Luke smashed his Big Blue course time (2'09"79) to move up four places to #37 (Pawn A). Simon Grier passed Michael Slade, and is now just one position away from becoming a Master after another very busy week (19 PRs!). Anders Hammar (Expert) improved three of his course times. Tuesday [May-27-2003] - ALL We have a new affiliate, Toshida Entertainment! They're just getting started, but you can see that this site has a fantastic future! Monday [May-26-2003] - ALL We had 38 active players in the last 10 days (21 FZMV; 12 FZX; 5 FZSNES). That includes six new members, bringing our total to exactly 300! Mike Nowak became our 300th member when he joined the SNES competition. Don't forget that we're going right back to our regular Friday updating this week, with Thursday's 12pm (USA Eastern time) deadline. That means you only have about 72 hours from the time of this update to get any new times in to us!! F-Zero (SNES) As noted at the top of this report, Mike Nowak (Pawn A) became F-Zero Central's 300th member. Welcome, Mike!! Julien Holmiere (King) moved up strongly to 4th overall and 2nd in PAL with 19 lightning-fast PRs. Master Simon Laflamme passed fellow Canadian Stanley Jeram for 6th in NTSC this week. Simon is up two spots to 10th overall! Laflamme wasn't the only big moving Simon this week. England's Simon Grier (Expert) is up to 14th overall, and gained three places to 7th in PAL. Kevin Lipovsk earned a rank gain from Pawn C to Pawn B with his 16 new marks. Great racing, Kevin! Thursday [May-22-2003] - ALL I'm heading out of town now, and I won't have internet access until I come back Sunday afternoon. Have fun racing for faster times this weekend, and don't forget to get them submitted for Monday's big update. See you then! Dave Monday [May-19-2003] - ALL We have a new affiliate, DWI Palace, a DWI file site run by F-Zero X members Dave Phaneuf and Jamie Thompson. I helped them rework their site navigation a little, check it out! Friday [May-16-2003] - ALL IMPORTANT NOTICE I will be out of town next weekend, so next week's update will be pushed back to Monday, May 26th. You'll have three extra days to lower your times!! For this one update only, there will not be a deadline. I'll include all times that I receive right up to the moment I do the update. F-Zero X member Jamie Thompson offered us some very nice title graphics. They now appear at the top of every page throughout the site. Thanks, Jamie! This week's active player count is a healthy 32 (FZMV-16, FZX-9, SNES-7): F-Zero (SNES) Julien Holmiere jumped into the King level (6th overall) by smashing most of his times ... many of them are now ranked #2 in PAL! Julien became only the 2nd PAL player (4th total) to go under eight minutes total lap time. Three NTSC (all from USA) players join us this week: Chris Fenstermacher (Pawn A), Kevin Lipovsk (Pawn C), and Logan West (Novice). Logan is now a member of all three competitions, setting new times in all three this week. Welcome to each of you!! Stanley Jeram (Master) set five PRs to hold onto 11th overall despite the fast charging Simon Laflamme, whose 23 new times earned him the title Master as well! Simon Grier also was promoted, building upon his hard work of recent weeks to earn the Expert rank. Friday [May-09-2003] - ALL F-Zero (SNES) Five excellent players took part in our SNES competition this week: Masters Julien Holmiere and Stanley Jeram each moved up a spot (9th and 11th respectively) with numerous new times. A pair of Experts also rewrote much of their profile: Simon Laflamme (13th overall) and Anders Hammar (14th) are both knocking on the door of the Master class . . . and each posted a lap time that ranks 4th overall!! Simon Grier (Bishop) is improving greatly as well. He's now very close to reaching Expert after his 16 PR week moved him up two spots to #19. Thursday [May-08-2003] - ALL The message board is back up and running smoothly. Order is restored. :-) Your monitor is working fine, the site has indeed changed from purple to blue! Wednesday [May-07-2003] - ALL I just tested the forms, and they are back up and working. Our webhost tells me that no e-mails have been lost, only delayed, so you should be able to use the forms with confidence. But if the form ever does give you an error message, that means that the times were not sent, in which case you should use the message board to submit your new times. Again please keep in mind that the message board will be down for maintenance tonight and possibly into tomorrow morning. . . so I guess it's a good thing that the forms are working again! Tuesday [May-06-2003] - ALL The times forms are down because my e-mail account isn't receiving them properly right now. It's a problem that my host will have to fix. Please submit your times to the message board until this situation is resolved. Also, please note that the message board will be down for maintenance Wednesday night/Thursday morning for up to 12 hours. Thanks for your patience during these disturbances. Friday [May-02-2003] - ALL Three dozen players. That's right . . . 36 active players at F-Zero Central this week, a new record! They combined to send in over 750 new personal records (PRs) for our database. Our eight new members bring us very close (290) to 300 F-Zero players!! Let's meet and greet our new members:
We wish you all the best of luck, and fun have competing here at F-Zero Central! Now let's get into what our returning players were able to accomplish this week: F-Zero (SNES) Well if you're not worn out yet from reading about the large amount of activity in the other two games, you're in for a pleasant surprise in SNES as well. Four players carried the torch for the original F-Zero this week, up from just one player last week. In addition to receiving our 60th SNES member, we had three other great players powering up their Super Nintendo Entertainment Systems: King ranked Aliek Bertolucci improved three NTSC lap times: Big Blue (24"37), Death Wind II (22"47), and Red Canyon II (26"20). Julien Holmiere (Master) moved into the top ten overall at #10 with seven PRs. He also is now 5th in PAL! Anders Hammar had eight new times, passing two players in the Expert rank to become 15th overall. Tuesday [Apr-29-2003] - ALL VIDEOS, VIDEOS, VIDEOS!!! Today, I uploaded many of F-Zero X world champion Jimmy Thai's amazing videos to the F-Zero Central N64 Movie Folder! I will soon be placing the Divx4 codec (needed to view Jimmy's AVI movies) in the same folder as the videos, but the server's upload system is currently down. Also, Fred Just has provided us with a new Championship video (1'27"09) for F-Zero MV! You'll need the XViD codec to view it. Thanks so much to Jimmy and Fred for sharing their great skill with us!! IMPROVEMENTS, IMPROVEMENTS, IMPROVEMENTS!!! Over the last few days I've been hard at work making many upgrades to F-Zero Central. Track ranking pages for F-Zero X and F-Zero MV have been cut into smaller pieces for easier viewing and faster load times. The Submit Times forms have been improved with an entirely new script that has several new features including required name and system, and a follow-up page showing the details of your submission so it can be checked for errors. That's not all! There's a new Community page that features all the links we use to interact with each other (including our popular Member Sites page), a greatly improved Much More! page with all of F-Zero Central's features that aren't linked straight from the front page, and our affiliates now have their own page. Behind the scenes, I've upgraded my spreadsheet for the F-Zero MV competition from 200 to 400 players. There's almost always an error or two visible in the next update after I've made such a large-scale upgrade. So if you see something wrong with Friday's GBA update, just send me an e-mail or post to the message board explaining the problem . . . it'll be fixed in less time than most sites would even take to READ your message! :-) Friday [Apr-25-2003] - ALL Some improvements to the site are noticeable today. F-Zero X and SNES players have levels assigned to their overall ranking, just like F-Zero MV has had for a long time. F-Zero MV now has A-D letter tags added to the Expert, Bishop, and Knight ranks. And F-Zero X will now be in frames to match the rest of the site (except the front page, of course). F-Zero (SNES) Simon Laflamme was our only active player this week, moving up two places to #19 overall in his second week with us. His nine PRs included a nice top ten lap time at Sand Ocean (27"57 NTSC). Sunday [Apr-20-2003] - ALL Effective immediately, there will be a deadline of 12 noon (Eastern USA) each Thursday for times to be included in Friday's update. This is needed to maintain the quality of the updates. There's been too much for me to juggle all at once with times steadily flowing in Thursday night and Friday morning. I'm not going back to Mon/Wed/Fri updates because I need to have a life. I was seemingly ALWAYS preparing for the next update. 12 noon Eastern USA is 9am Pacific USA, 5pm UK time, and 2am Friday if you're in Sydney, Australia. :) Friday [Apr-18-2003] - ALL F-Zero (SNES) Canada's Simon Laflamme is already an experienced racer (in many games), joining us at #21 overall (10th NTSC). Good luck, Simon!! Aliek Bertolucci's big week moved him past Olivier Thibaut for 4th overall. Great racing, Al! Anders Hammar continued his consistent play, moving up a spot to 17th overall and 9th in PAL. Friday [Apr-11-2003] - ALL F-Zero (SNES) Three players were active on the SNES this week, including one new player. Maxime Walbrou of France begins tied with Ranjit Kohli for 37th overall. Welcome, Maxime!! Aliek Bertolucci continues to show great progress, moving past Sami Cetin for 5th overall with 13 new times. While Stefan Schwendeler is away playing F-Zero X, Anders Hammar (18th overall) continues to gain ground on him. Anders improved five of his times this week. By cutting just seven more points, Hammar will reach Schwendeler's 9th spot on the PAL chart. Friday [Apr-04-2003] - ALL F-Zero (SNES) Aliek Bertolucci set eight PRs to move past Nathan Hahn for 7th overall and 3rd in NTSC. Julien Holmiere's 11 new times jumped him ahead of Stanley Jeram for 11th place overall. Great racing, everyone!! Friday [Mar-28-2003] - ALL F-Zero (SNES) While only two players submitted SNES times this week, Julien Holmiere made sure that there was big news to report for the original F-Zero. He crushed all 30 of his PRs on his way to soaring from 30th to 12th overall!! He's now 6th in PAL. Anders Hammar (18th overall) was our other active player, setting four new course times and passing Michele Di Fronzo on both the overall and PAL charts. Friday [Mar-21-2003] - ALL First, I'd like to say that this new system of updating all three games on Fridays worked out very well in its first trial. Also, thanks for bearing with me as I gradually convert the site to frames. GBA got the treatment today, so if you see any links that don't work, or open oddly (like opening inside a frame when they shouldn't), please let me know. I temporarily deactivated the track ranking links from the GBA profiles . . . they weren't working (due to the frames conversion), and fixing them will take a little more time than I have today. OK, let's get on to the important stuff! . . . F-Zero (SNES) PAL champion David Van Moer moved within nine points of the regaining the overall championship by breaking Sami Cetin's Death Wind I PAL record. David's 2'19"38 at DW1 now gives him a clean sweep of all 30 PAL records! Our competition on the original F-Zero received its 57th recruit, Julien Holmiere (30th overall, 14th PAL). Julien is also a member of our F-Zero X battles. Welcome to SNES, Julien! Barry J. Herbert II made a strong move, crushing 24 of his PRs to soar from 37th to 25th overall. He also gained seven spots to reach 14th in NTSC. Anders Hammar had five PRs to close to just three points behind Michele Di Fronzo for 9th in PAL. Tuesday [Mar-18-2003] - ALL F-Zero Central now has its own AIM Chatroom! Thanks to Dave Phaneuf for the suggestion. Monday [Mar-17-2003] - ALL Please welcome our newest affiliate, Gamecube Planet! GCP focuses on the U.K. Gamecube scene, but gamers worldwide can enjoy this great site! If you're looking for the GBA update, please note that all three F-Zero competitions are now updated each Friday. Wednesday [Mar-12-2003] - F-Zero (SNES) Anders Hammar (10th PAL) had nine PRs to move up two places to 18th overall, while David Konst (8th overall, 5th NTSC) improved three of his times. Beginning next week, all three games will be updated on Fridays! Wednesday [Mar-05-2003] - F-Zero (SNES) Our top three players were all active this week, with several records falling: Leandro Ribeiro (NTSC and Overall champ) Sand Ocean 2'21"47 (Overall record) White Land I 1'56"44 (Overall record) White Land II lap 24"27 (Overall record) Fire Field lap 35"85 (Overall record) David Van Moer (PAL champ; #2 overall) Death Wind II 2'33"78 (PAL record) Fire Field lap 48"10 (PAL record) Kort Everett Jackson (#2 NTSC; #3 overall) Big Blue 2'07"65 (NTSC record) Big Blue lap 24"26 (Overall record) In other action, Daniel Yavitz (16th overall, 8th NTSC) and Anders Hammar (20th, 11th PAL) each set many PRs and each climbed two positions on the overall chart. Thursday [Feb-27-2003] - F-Zero (SNES) It was a relatively quiet week for SNES. Leandro Ribeiro and David Van Moer continued to lower their record times, but player movement was limited to David Konst passing Roland Pristauz for 8th overall. Michele Di Fronzo (16th overall, 9th PAL) was the only other player reporting PRs. Wednesday [Feb-19-2003] - F-Zero (SNES) CHAMPIONSHIP CHANGES HANDS AGAIN In December, Leandro Ribeiro took the top spot in SNES away from David Van Moer. Then last month, Van Moer climbed back on top. Now, Ribeiro has re-staked his claim to the title with a busy 11 PR week (including many record times!) to move two points ahead. Congratulations Leandro! Our newest member, Rich Luke, is no ordinary SNES player. His Mute City I time of 1'58"60 is already a site record! Check our Videos page to view this fantastic race. He'll admit that his other times need some work, but if his MC1 mark is any indication of what's to come, the sky's the limit! He begins 34th overall, 23rd in NTSC. Welcome, Rich! Aliek Bertolucci has been receiving instruction from Leandro Ribeiro, and it has paid off with 29 PRs and a big eight place move to 7th overall (4th NTSC). Felipe Nunes had 10 PRs and moved up four to 48th overall (30th NTSC). David Konst (9th overall, 5th NTSC) improved nine of his times, while Michele Di Fronzo (16th overall, 9th PAL) improved 15 marks. Sunday [Feb-16-2003] - ALL F-Zero Central is proud to announce a new affiliate, M & G Inc. M & G stands for Music and Gaming, so they have a wide spectrum of topics at their disposal. Go check out their site now! Wednesday [Feb-12-2003] - F-Zero (SNES) David Van Moer improved his site record at Mute City II with a 2'42"02 PAL clocking. He also set new site marks at Port Town I (24"14 lap) and Port Town II (2'58"82). Leandro Ribeiro's efforts brought him a pair of site records at the White Lands: White Land I (1'56"85 NTSC), and White Land II (24"36 lap). Leandro also broke the NTSC record for Red Canyon II lap (25"83), a time which tied the site record. Kort Everett Jackson broke the site record at Death Wind I with a 1'44"53 NTSC mark. Michele Di Fronzo improved six times and gained two places to 16th. Anders Hammar wanted to become the top Swede, and did just that with three new times this week, passing Joakim Alderborn for 22nd overall. Wednesday [Feb-05-2003] - F-Zero (SNES) F-Zero Central is proud to welcome a new affiliate!! Sami Cetin (member of SNES and GBA) has been running the Super Mario Kart Players Site for years. It's a time trial competition site similar in function to our site. One great feature about Sami's site is his system of Standards. You can look at his table of standard times and know immediately when you've upgraded your time to a new level! It's really cool. I'm a member, and I love it (although I'm not so great at the game!). So if you like SMK, don't miss this site! There's lots of SNES action to report, with 10 players reporting new times over the past seven days: The top three of David Van Moer, Leandro Ribeiro, and Kort Everett Jackson all moved forward with new record times, holding their respective positions in the player rankings. Great job to each of you!! F-Zero X member Jose Hermida joined SNES this week (ranked 43rd), while both Michele Di Fronzo (18th) and Felipe Nunes (52nd) are new to F-Zero Central entirely, bringing our membership to 55 in SNES, 254 total!! David Konst had a big week, passing Stanley Jeram for 4th in NTSC. He also gained four spots to break into the top ten overall at #8. Stefan Schwendeler passed Justin Matis and Aliek Bertolucci for 13th overall. Matt Berg had seven PRs and got by Trevor Moe for 9th in NTSC. He remains 19th on the overall chart. Anders Hammar jumped a big six places to 23rd overall. He also moved ahead of Bas B.P. Willemsen and Michael Liem for the #12 position in PAL. Wednesday [Jan-29-2003] - F-Zero (SNES) The excitement about SNES racing continues to build, with an amazing TEN active players this week for a game which is over a decade old! David Van Moer and Leandro Ribeiro each set new system and overall records as they continue to hold down the top two positions in the overall player rankings. Please say hello to our three new SNES members: David Konst, Trevor Caldwell, and Bas B.P. Willemsen. With these additions, F-Zero Central is proud to have reached 250 members! Aliek Bertolucci jumped from 20th to 13th overall by re-writing all of his times since the last update. He's #6 in NTSC. Anders Hammar did likewise, and soared from 42nd all the way to 29th. Anders also moved up to 13th in PAL. Stefan Schwendeler, Daniel Yavitz, and Matt Berg all were very active as well. Berg cut enough points to pass Mark Jones in the player rankings, while Schwendeler got past Piet den Dulk for 8th on the PAL list. Wednesday [Jan-22-2003] - F-Zero (SNES) Overall champ David Van Moer had another record-breaking week and extended his points lead. He broke or tied nine site records! We welcome new SNES members Aliek Bertolucci and Anders Hammar. Good luck to you both!! Nathan Hahn continued his strong racing and gained a place to 6th overall. Stefan Schwendeler passed Piet den Dulk for 13th overall with some big cuts to his times. For his efforts this week, Matt Berg is rewarded with a two position move up to 18th overall. Barry J. Herbert II's new times moved him up a spot to 32nd place. Wednesday [Jan-15-2003] - F-Zero (SNES) VAN MOER BACK ON TOP Four weeks ago, Leandro Ribeiro took the overall crown. Now, David Van Moer reclaimed the championship with five new overall site records! Congratulations, David! Kort Everett Jackson set several new NTSC records, and made significant progress in gaining on Ribeiro for the #2 position. John Bergeron sent in new Mute City I times (1'58"83, 23"27), almost breaking the NTSC site course record! John made a four position gain in NTSC, up to 15th on that chart. Daniel Yavitz moved up a spot to #15 overall with a 12 PR week. Matt Berg set 21 PRs and jumped up six places to #20 overall. Olivier Thibaut (4th overall) improved five of his times. Clarification: I need to explain a current situation with the overall Red Canyon II lap chart. The records page shows a tie at 25"88 (NTSC), but the track ranking shows David Van Moer #1 at (25"88 converted to NTSC) 34"50 PAL, and Kort Everett Jackson #2 with 25"88 NTSC (34"51 converted to PAL). Van Moer should be credited with the record by himself. His PAL time converts to 25"875 NTSC, rounded to 25"88. Jackson's time rounds to 34"51 PAL, 1/100 slower than Van Moer. I need to make some program changes to accurately handle this situation, which I had not anticipated. The overall player rankings correctly have Jackson assigned 2nd place (2 points) on that chart. The track ranking page is correct, but further track ranking improvements must be made so that all of the pages are able to correctly sort such virtual ties. The records page will be corrected to differentiate between the times as well. That page shows NTSC conversions just for comparison's sake, but there is not a true tie, so it shouldn't show a tie. Wednesday [Jan-08-2003] - F-Zero (SNES) It was a record-setting week in SNES! Olivier Thibaut broke two overall site records (White Land II - 2'54"70 PAL, Sand Ocean - 36"24 lap PAL). He passed Sami Cetin on both player rankings to reach #2 PAL, and 4th overall! Kort Everett Jackson broke one overall (Mute City II - 22"97 lap NTSC) and one NTSC mark (Red Canyon I - 19"79 lap). Switzerland's lone F-Zero X combatant Stefan Schwendeler joined this week at 14th overall (#9 PAL), and Matt Berg (USA) becomes F-Zero Central's 240th member, entering the SNES race at 26th overall (15th NTSC). Welcome and good luck! Kort will be at it again this Saturday (January 11th), hosting a chat in the F-Zero Central chatroom at 9am Eastern USA (2pm U.K.). It will last until 1pm (6pm U.K.), so you'll have plenty of time to visit! Sunday [Jan-05-2003] - ALL I moved the old GBA Member Sites page to the main area so that all F-Zero Central members will be encouraged to submit their websites for that page. Also, new member sites by Kort Everett Jackson and Silas Verrinder have been added. If you have a site to submit, or if you find any broken links, please let me know! Thursday [Jan-02-2003] - F-Zero Gamecube F-Zero Gamecube set for May release in Japan A new GameSpot article reveals Nintendo's upcoming schedule! Wednesday [Jan-01-2003] - F-Zero (SNES) HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Combined track rankings for SNES are here!! They have all the features of the F-Zero X version . . . NTSC and PAL conversions, which system the player uses, This Week/Last Week columns, and color-coding for both new times and gain/loss in standings. There is more work to do: I still need to add the System column to the overall player ranking page, and make improvements to the profiles (home country, overall rank, and overall rank of each time). This is all information that is available on other pages, so I'm not feeling a big sense of urgency to make these changes, but they are on my "to do" list. Two NTSC players improved their position this week: Nathan Hahn's second straight 22 PR week propelled him to #3 in NTSC, and 7th overall! Jeremy Wright made 18 PRs to climb to #26 NTSC, 39th overall. |
