Friday [Dec-27-2002] - F-Zero X (N64)

Many thanks to Michael Houghton, who began his F-Zero X timekeeping duties this week on very short notice. Great job, Michael!!

Roland Pristauz set 18 PRs to move past Erick Guillen for 4th overall! He set new PAL records at Mute City (1579 speed) and Mute City 3 (1'29"084, 27"396 lap).

Michael Houghton improved 27 PRs and gained two spots to 11th overall. His White Land 2 improvements (50"986, 15"855 lap) are both PAL records!

Adam Gwatking had 25 PRs, and is now 17th best overall, #9 in PAL. Adam's favorite track is clearly Sector Alpha, where he set a new PAL record for speed (1979)!

Kevin Nickel is already a member of our GBA racing program, and now joins the N64 fun at #25 NTSC, 44th overall. Welcome, Kevin!!

Armin Pristauz had a big 54 PRs to pass Stefan Schwendeler and Wouter Jansen for 8th overall! He also got past Scwendeler for 4th in the PAL rankings.

Jordan Stopciati jumped to 23rd overall with his 38 PRs.

Mathias Daxauer rewrote most of his PRs (58 of them!), climbing four places to 30th overall. He's now #15 in PAL.

Jim Mitchell (#4 NTSC, 6th overall) had 12 PRs. He's within 74 points of NTSC's third best, Erick Guillen.

Wouter Jansen (#3 PAL, 9th overall) broke 18 of his marks and is in a fierce battle with Armin Pristauz as they climb the charts.

Friday [Dec-20-2002] - F-Zero X (N64)

There's just as much competitive spirit in the air as there is holiday spirit these days!! 14 active players sent in a total of 540 Personal Records (PRs). Both numbers are site records for F-Zero X!

Armin Pristauz challenged both Stefan Schwendeler and Wouter Jansen, while Kort Everett Jackson issued a challenge to Dave Crawford. Kort then proceeded to blow past Crawford in the rankings!

Among his four PRs, Jimmy Thai broke one of the few world records he didn't already hold, with a Silence time of 1'02"412.

Of our 14 active players, four of them are new members. We welcome Jordan Stopciati, Mathias Daxauer, Silas Verrinder, and Andrew Hewlett this week. Good luck, guys!!

Unfortunately, when the site becomes this busy, I don't have the time necessary to detail the highlights for each player here on the news page. The good news is that with the color-coded rankings, profiles, and track rankings, you can easily track your own progress as well as follow what everyone else is doing. So click on the F-Zero X picture at the top of the page and check out this week's action!!

Friday [Dec-13-2002] - F-Zero X (N64)

Continuing the trend of the last few F-Zero X updates, we had a big total of nine players submit times this week. Everyone is working very hard to improve their times and speeds, and to move up the rankings. Stick with it guys, because once the Gamecube F-Zero is released, many more N64 players will find us, which will add even more excitement and passion to this competition!

PLAYER UPDATES

PAL Champion David Van Moer improved two of his PAL records at Devil's Forest 2 (1'21"991, 1732 speed).

Wouter Jansen became only the second PAL player to reach max speed (2500) at Space Plant, and raced a White Land time of 1'36"119, 2nd best in PAL.

F-Zero Central welcomes Australia's Adam Gwatking to the F-Zero X wars! He starts #11 in PAL and 21st overall. Good luck to you, Adam!!

Jim Mitchell broke 21 PRs to pass Sean Fleming for #4 NTSC and 6th overall. Jim's Big Blue lap of 23"193 (NTSC) is his first course or lap time to rank 3rd in NTSC!

Armin Pristauz had 25 new times to jump three places to #11 overall. His 24"237 PAL lap at Red Canyon 2 is 5th best overall!

Tyler Needham focused mainly on improving speeds among his 16 PRs. His best was at Red Canyon 2, where his 2117 speed (NTSC) ranks 10th best on the site. Tyler passed Jason Whalls and Brian Wilson on both charts to become #8 NTSC and 16th overall.

Thomas Exenberger (#9 PAL, 19th overall) issued a challenge to Michael Houghton, and improved 28 marks to get the battle started. Among his new times is an impressive 1'16"345 (2nd in PAL!) at Silence.

Michael Houghton (#8 PAL, 15th overall) let it be known that he's up to the challenge, setting 16 PRs to maintain most of his PAL advantage (now 91 points) over Exenberger.

Stefan Schwendeler (#4 PAL, 9th overall) had 28 PRs including a very good 1488 speed (PAL) at Big Blue, which is 8th best overall, 3rd in PAL!

Sunday [Dec-08-2002] - ALL

The F-Zero Central redesign is complete! There will ALWAYS be minor tweaks of course, but the main work is done.

I've reinstated the link to our Japanese affiliate, they are at a temporary location, but they have found a new server and are in the process of transferring all of their data to it! Hopefully their time and ranking charts will be back online soon.

An interesting article at Gamespot tells us that the upcoming Action Replay for Gamecube will allow us to play imported games! I presume that means North American NTSC gamers will be able to play Japanese games, which would mean that North America can begin playing F-Zero Gamecube when it is released in Japan!! The full story: Action Replay for Gamecube

Friday [Dec-06-2002] - F-Zero X (N64)

We had TEN active players this week, eight of them in the PAL competition! F-Zero X has become our busiest game lately, having more active gamers than our GBA battle! On to the player news . . .

Roland Pristauz (#2 PAL, #5 overall) was the busiest of all this week with 41 PRs. He set PAL speed records at Red Canyon 2 (2450) and Big Hand (1242), as well as reaching max speed at Sector Beta (2500)!

After months away from the game, David Van Moer returned and has already broken his own Fire Field PAL record with a time of 1'06"207!

Michael Houghton's 30 PR week earned him the 8th position in PAL, and #15 overall. He broke his own White Land 2 PAL speed record with a mark of 2326.

Jim Mitchell set 26 new times and became only the fourth player to reach max speed at Space Plant (3000 NTSC). Great job!

Armin Pristauz was busy with 26 new marks, including his first max speed (Sector Beta, 2500 PAL)! He's up three to #14 overall this week.

A big F-Zero Central welcome to our newest member, Paul Benjamin-Gaylor of Germany. Paul begins ranked 17th in PAL and #34 overall. Good luck!!

Bjorn Trondset broke 30 pf his PRs, including a speed of 1199 at Mute City which ranks 12th best. He gained three places to #32 in the overall competition.

Thomas Exenberger vowed to pass Thomas Praschberger, and reached his goal this week, improving nine times to pass Praschberger on both the PAL and overall charts.

After improving 28 times, Sean Fleming (#6 overall) is now within an even 100 points of catching Erick Guillen for third in NTSC.

Wouter Jansen (#3 PAL, #8 overall) improved his course, lap and speed scores at Port Town, Space Plant, and Sand Ocean 2.

NEW LOOK

Yes, it's true, four months after re-organizing and re-designing F-Zero Central to bring all of the news to one main page and create a primary navigation point, I'm at it again. This new, more modern look should serve us well for a long time. The competition sites will be integrated into this style in the coming days and weeks.

I'm also making another noticeable change today. The GBA site will be moved into its own directory, meaning all GBA pages will have (slightly) new URLs. This is necessary to correct a file organization problem that was created back when we expanded from one competition into three (eight months ago). Any F-Zero Central GBA competition pages that you have bookmarked will need to be updated. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Please report any broken links so that I can repair them as soon as possible. Thanks!

Friday [Nov-29-2002] - F-Zero X (N64)

Jim Mitchell set a new world record at Big Hand by reaching 1513 kmh speed!! He also broke a total 40 of his PRs and is close to becoming only the fifth NTSC player to go under 30 minutes for his course total time.

We have a pair of strong new players on the PAL side this week. Wouter Jansen is 8th overall (#3 PAL), while Armin Pristauz (yes, Roland's brother!) ranks 17th overall and #7 PAL. Among Jansen's marks is a PAL record of 1278 kmh at Devil's Forest. Welcome, guys!!

Roland Pristauz reclaimed 5th overall with 21 new times.

Thomas Praschberger broke 44 PRs to pass Exenberger, Houghton, and Atkinson for 18th overall. His Rainbow Road speed of 1839 kmh (PAL) is 9th best overall.

Thomas Exenberger's 24 PRs were enough to pass Michael Houghton for 19th in the overall competition. The two are deadlocked for 9th place in PAL. Thomas' Devil's Forest lap of 24"579 is #9 overall, 3rd best in PAL!

J.T. McNally set 35 PRs, climbing two places to #15 NTSC (30th overall).

Dave Crawford had 21 PRs to creep past Bjorn Trondset on the overall list.

Kort Everett Jackson had 36 PRs, gaining more ground this week on Crawford, his closest NTSC rival.

Tuesday [Nov-26-2002] - F-Zero X (N64)

The combined track rankings for F-Zero X are here!! This long awaited feature allows players to view the time rankings of ALL players together for the first time!

Profiles have also been upgraded with new information: home country of player, player's overall rank, and overall rank for each time.

Additionally, the player rankings pages have been improved to include a "This Week / Last Week" feature. This new statistic, plus the color-coding for all of the above mentioned pages will become active starting with Friday's update.

With all of these changes, there are likely to be a couple of (hopefully minor) errors. If you see something that isn't right, please e-mail the webmaster and I'll fix it right away.

Friday [Nov-22-2002] - F-Zero X (N64)

It's exciting to see players that are so motivated by our competitions. While all are making great improvements, Michael Houghton and Jim Mitchell are pushing especially hard for ranking gains and even new record times and speeds!

Tomorrow is "Kort Chat IV" at 10am Eastern USA (3pm Great Britain) in the F-Zero Central chatroom. Please attend, you'll be glad you did!

PLAYER UPDATES

Michael Houghton broke 23 of his marks, including a new PAL record for White Land 2 speed (2269)! He came very close to breaking the PAL record for WL2 course time as well.

Kristina Potts sent in times for all of her unreported tracks, plus a few improvements. She gains 4 places overall to 27th, and also 4 spots to #15 in NTSC.

Elliot Jones improved 23 course times. He moves up to 30th overall (#12 PAL).

We are joined by Austria's Thomas Exenberger, who starts #7 in PAL and 17th overall. Good luck, Thomas!

Sunday [Nov-17-2002] - F-Zero X (N64)

Wow, the F-Zero X competition is really heating up!! We welcome no fewer than FOUR new players to our site . . . Jim Mitchell is 7th overall, Marco Verstappen starts 21st, Kristina Potts begins at #31, while Scott VanCampen ranks 34th. Good luck everyone!

There were some very impressive times and speeds set this week, but I'm still doing much computer work, so I'll keep it brief, reporting only the ranking changes:

While both were active this week, Sean Fleming got past Roland Pristauz for 5th overall.

Stefan Schwendeler (8th overall) set many PRs and moved past Nathan Stinson and Tom Collopy.

Michael Houghton passed both Jonathan Atkinson and Thomas Praschberger for 16th place.

Saturday [Nov-16-2002] - ALL

Everything is going well in my rebuilding of lost data. The F-Zero X update will definitely happen tomorrow, so if you have new times to submit, get them in ASAP!

I can now very confidently say that the regular updating schedule will resume on Monday. The timetable for the new combined rankings and improved profiles for F-Zero X is still unknown. Friday, Nov. 29 is probably a realistic goal for that project.

Friday [Nov-15-2002] - ALL

GOOD NEWS / BAD NEWS

The good news first . . . Tomorrow is Kort's chat in the F-Zero Central chatroom! As usual, it will begin at 9am Eastern USA (2pm Great Britain) and last at least four hours. Stop in whenever you can!!

Now to the bad news. My system crashed and I lost a significant amount of data. I lost a full week of updates and all of my work on the combined rankings for F-Zero X. I WILL be able to rebuild everything, but not in one day. So I am delaying the F-Zero X update until Sunday. And even then, the combined rankings won't be ready. That feature will have to wait at least a week. The F-Zero MV update should still be on schedule for Monday. If that changes, I'll let you know right here. If you've ever been through a computer crash like this, you know how frustrating it is. Thanks for your patience.

Friday [Nov-8-2002] - F-Zero X (N64)

World Champion Jimmy Thai became the first to race a lap at Port Town in under 19 seconds (18"850)!

Michael Houghton set eight PRs this week, including getting under one minute (PAL) at White Land 2! Michael moved up a spot to #8 in the PAL rankings, and is only eight points out of 7th! He also gained a place in the overall rankings, up to 17th.

Kort Everett Jackson had a big 38 new marks, closing to within 13 points of Elliot Jones for 27th overall.

Kort Everett Jackson broke most of his PRs, passing Bjorn Trondset in the overall race.

Michael Houghton had five PRs, and trails Jose Hermida by just 16 points on the PAL chart.

We have two new members this week: I found England's Jonathan Atkinson (#6 PAL, 15th overall) through a Google search, while Canadian Barry J. Herbert II (#20 NTSC, 30th overall) is already a member of the other two competitions, so he knew exactly where to find us. :)

Dave Crawford made five PRs at Mute City and Silence.

Kort Everett Jackson is planning a chat for Saturday, October 19th. The chat will start at 9am Eastern USA (2pm England). Different countries may change their clocks on different weekends this month, so watch out for that possible variance. Anyone who knows when their country is moving the clock back one hour, please post it to the message board in the Open F-Zero Forum. It will run for at least four hours, so stop by the chatroom when you can!! He is also planning a three hour chat for October 26th.

We welcome a pair of new NTSC members this week: Sean Fleming is an excellent veteran player who found us; he starts at #4 NTSC, 6th overall. F-Zero MV Master J.T. Kort Everett Jackson improved most of his times, continuing the early stages of his three year world domination plan. :)

Dave Crawford sent in five more tracks this week to retain the positions (#14 NTSC, 25th overall) just ahead of Jackson.

Monday: F-Zero MV (GBA) update

Saturday [Sep-7-2002] - ALL

IMPORTANT NOTICE

I have deactivated the F-Zero MV and F-Zero SNES Yahoo Groups . . . they will no longer allow posts (you can still view the existing posts). From now on, please use the F-Zero Central Message Board to post new times and discuss your favorite game! :-) Also remember that our Time Submission forms are always available to use for sending in new times as well.

Friday [Sep-6-2002] - F-Zero X (N64)

Jimmy Thai set a new NTSC Sector Alpha lap record (17"386), and updated his Fire Field records, which were incorrect.

Erick Guillen improved his Big Blue speed (2956), coming SO close to maxing out at 3000, which is the highest speed that the NTSC version will record (2500 is the PAL max).

Roland Pristauz broke over 50 of his PRs to reclaim the #2 spot in PAL and climb four places to 5th overall.

Jose Hermida improved many of his times as well, closing some of the gap between himself and Stefan Kallen in the PAL race.

We welcome two more new players this week, as our membership hot streak continues! Austrian Thomas Praschberger joins us at #6 in PAL and 14th overall, while Michigan's Erick McNerney is #12 in NTSC, 19th overall. Good luck guys!!

The profiles, records pages, and staff ghosts page have now been converted to the new look. Only the track rankings pages remain in F-Zero X, then I'll move on to the largest part of the project, the F-Zero MV area.

Friday [Aug-30-2002] - F-Zero X (N64)

That's eight new F-Zero X members in the last three weeks!! The recent changes to F-Zero Central (centralized news page; improved visibility at Google) seem to be working. Just wait until we get the added traffic when the Gamecube competition arrives. This place will be ROCKING!! :-)

I've added the homes countries of the players, so now all of the competitions have homes listed. Someone please let me know the locations of Dustin Andrews and Tyler Needham so the list will be complete. Thanks!

Monday: F-Zero MV (GBA) update

Thursday [Aug-29-2002] - ALL

Helpful Tip

The only way to guarantee that your times will be included in an update is to submit them no later than THE NIGHT BEFORE the update: send Thursday night for a Friday update, for example. The update could happen AT ANY TIME throughout the day, depending on my personal schedule. I've been known to do updates as early as shortly after midnight at the start of the day, or even wait until shortly before midnight at the end of the day. I include ALL times I have received up to the minute, so if you have new times on the day of an update, please still send them in, they may be included. But keep in mind that they may also have to wait a week if the update is already done.

Friday [Aug-23-2002] - F-Zero X (N64)

Times fully updated

Dustin Andrews earned our top story by setting a World Record at White Land 2 with a time of 37"804. Great racing, Dustin!

Our F-Zero X family is really growing fast, with another three new members this week! Michael Mattiacci and Gavin Carper are new to the NTSC side, and Roland Pristauz joins the PAL competition at #2. Welcome and good luck to each of you!

Not only is the GBA form back, but I've added forms for the SNES and N64 games as well!! You can now submit times for ANY of the games with an easy to use form. Please contact me if you have a problem with any of the forms.

Also, David Van Moer has updated his strats for F-Zero SNES Port Town I and Port Town II. They're found in the Tips & Strategies section of the F-Zero SNES Time Trialers area.

Sunday [Aug-11-2002] - ALL
We had a great time at the chat yesterday. Participants included K. Everett Jackson (SNES/GBA), Mike Kircher (GBA), Leandro Ribeiro (SNES), Richard Corrigan (GBA), and host Dave Crawford. It's great to talk live about the games that we love to play. More than one of the guys were even playing F-Zero during the chat! We want to see more of you come to the next chat, which will be scheduled in September. Look here for the announcement. Thanks to all who participated!!

August 5, 2002 - ALL
The message board is currently down. It is system-wide, not just our board. We just have to wait patiently while Sudden Launch fixes the problem.

The GBA update will come late this evening, which will be early Tuesday morning for Europe.

August 2, 2002 - ALL
The main page for the upcoming Gamecube version is now in place, please check it out, there are links to some F-Zero Gamecube movies and screenshots. We will be ready to accept times and begin the competition the VERY DAY that this game is released!

The F-Zero X Time Attack (N64) main page has been updated to fit the new design as well. I still have much work to do on the rest of the FZX site, as well as the entire FZMV (GBA) site. But the gains we'll see in easier navigation will be well worth it!

I've said it before, but it bears repeating: If there's a page you can't find during this construction, please let me know right away. I WILL fix it. Thanks!

All you Zelda fans, make sure to check out The Lost Realms, our new affiliate! It's run by Dick Grinwis, who is a member of our staff as well as our GBA competition.

August 1, 2002 - ALL
The rebuild is starting to take shape. This front page is now fully reorganized, and our brand new Message Board is a big improvement over the old FZMV Players Site board.

Also, the FZMV (GBA) strats page has been reworked and updated to include some new strats from Frederick Johnson.

Another happy personal announcement from your webmaster: This week I get to celebrate not only my 35th birthday (Tuesday), but also my 4th wedding anniversary (today!). :-) OK, I won't bother you with any more of that stuff for another 363 days. LOL

July 30, 2002 - ALL
"Redesign" is the word of the day. Well, that and "birthday," considering I am turning 35 today. :-) The new layout of F-Zero Central will put the news for each site right here, on the main page. This will improve the flow of the site greatly and put more focus on the F-Zero Central concept instead of each individual competition site separately.

Look for minor design changes at each competition site in the coming days and weeks. This should in NO WAY hinder your ability to browse the sites at any time. If there's any page or info that you can't find, please contact me, and I'll fix it ASAP.

July 30, 2002
Look for all future F-Zero X Time Attack news on the F-Zero Central home page, due to site layout changes. The competition itself will not change at all, just where you get your news is changing. F-Zero Central will simply become the new "front door" for this competition.

More new times from Jose Hermida, as he passes a pair of players, reaching #11 on the overall ranking list. His latest marks include a nice 29"099 (PAL) lap at Big Blue!

July 26, 2002
Erick Guillen improved at Sector Alpha, Red Canyon 2 lap, and Death Race. Jose Hermida improved his Mute City speed.

July 22, 2002
Our newest member is Jose Hermida of Spain. He joins the PAL competition ranked #3. As far as I can tell he doesn't speak English, so I'm getting some help from Edgar Moncisvais regarding this.

Welcome, Jose!!

July 1, 2002
Erick Guillen improved his Mute City 3 times and his Fire Field lap.

Also, Jimmy Thai has generously contributed a pair of beautifully recorded races at Red Canyon 1 & 2. However, they're 12MB each. I've edited them down to the first lap of each race at a more manageable size of less than 2MB each:

Jimmy Thai - Red Canyon 1
Jimmy Thai - Red Canyon 2

If you'd like to have the full race, larger screen, 12MB versions of these videos, please e-mail me to make arrangements.

Updated Jimmy Thai's World Record time (1'02"478) at Red Canyon 2.

May 16, 2002
Erick Guillen sent in improvements at Devil's Forest 3 and Space Plant.

May 9, 2002
Added: Track Rankings for both NTSC and PAL, a page listing all of the Staff Ghost times, and an Overall Records page. All of the site's records are World Records!!

I didn't do a set of combined track rankings pages. If we can get some more PAL members, I'll add the combined track rankings, but for now the time and webspace needed aren't justified.

May 6, 2002
Stefan Kallen sent in 15 PRs, cutting more than 20 seconds off of his PAL course total, and nearly 7 seconds from his lap total.

May 2, 2002
Erick Guillen improved his Port Town 2 lap to 26"288.

April 29, 2002
We have two new PAL players in Stefan Kallen and Elliot Jones. Welcome!

Some new times came in recently for David Van Moer and Erick Guillen, and I've also updated some older marks from Dustin Andrews and Jimmy Thai. Dustin and Jimmy, please look over your profiles and let me know if there are any errors or omissions. Thanks, and great racing everyone!

>Today the point system page was added, as well as a page that explains how to join our site.

April 15, 2002
We received an updated full set of times from Erick Guillen. He further solidifies his hold on the #3 spot in NTSC!

April 5, 2002
Our first new face since kicking off the site is Tyler Needham. He joins us at #8 on the NTSC ranks. Welcome Tyler, and good luck!!

Many thanks to Dustin Andrews and the guys at the F-Zero X World Records Site. That site is no longer being updated, so they graciously allowed us to use their data to get this site rolling.

We start humbly with 11 players, nine NTSC and two on the PAL side of the ledger. David Van Moer and I (Dave Crawford) hope to rebuild interest in F-Zero X through this site. Currently the only pages are the three rankings pages, the player profiles, and the two records pages. In the coming weeks we will be filling out the site by adding a rankings page for each track, a strategy page, a form to make submitting times easier, F-Zero related links, as well as community features such as a message board and chatroom.

I encourage anyone who owns F-Zero X to join us by submitting all of their times. We're going to build a wonderful community here, be part of the fun!
