Logging in - Intro | New folder/deleting - Renaming - Uploading - Moving files - Sorting files/column resizing/refreshing
Oh no, he said "ftp"! It's hopeless now! How will I ever upload my videos?

Never used an ftp program before? Don't worry, it's actually very simple. Just read the first 2 sections of this page (up to the red line), and you'll be able to start uploading videos.

In order to upload videos to wrvids.com, you'll need an FTP program. I recommend WS_FTP, which you can download here.

While installing the program, make sure you click "For personal use" as your purpose, or it won't let you install it. After installing the program and opening it, you'll see the following window:

Logging in: Fill in the 3 boxes I highlighted red with the appropriate login info (leave the other boxes alone), and click OK. You'll need to contact me through AIM (mjf345) or MSN (mjf345_at_hotmail_dot_com) to get the login info.

Intro: The program is now split into 2 sides. On the left side you see files on your computer, and on the right side you see files on wrvids.com. Start out by double-clicking to open the folder called "wrvids.com". Ignore the other 2 folders. On the right side, navigate to the folder you want to upload to. On the left side, navigate to the folder you want to upload from. Select the videos you want to upload, and click --> to upload them. Now you know the basics of how to upload videos. If you'd like to know more, then continue reading.

New folder/deleting: To create a new folder, click "MkDir", type a name for the folder, and click OK. If you change your mind and decide you don't want the folder anymore, just click the folder and click delete. Be careful when using the delete button, or you might accidentally delete something important.

Renaming: To change a file's name, click the file and click the "Rename" button. Double click the green up-arrow to move up a folder, out of the sub-folder and into the larger folder.

Uploading: On the left side of the program, press the green arrow a few times to get out of the folder you started in, and navigate to the folder that contains the video you want to upload. Click the video, and click --> to upload (or double-click the video). You can use ctrl+click to select multiple videos to upload at once. To download, click a file on the right side and click <--.

Moving files: Oops! You uploaded the video to the wrong folder! Instead of deleting and re-uploading, you can simply move the file to the correct folder. Click the video, then right-click the video, and click "move files". Now type the path of the folder you want to move the video to, as shown in the following picture, and click ok.

If you're not sure exactly what to type here, just navigate to the folder you want to move the video to, press "ChgDir", and press ctrl+C to copy the full path. Then navigate back to the file, click "move files" again, and press ctrl+V to copy the path.

Sorting files/column resizing/refreshing: You can sort the files on either side by name, date, or size by clicking the name, date, or size button. You can drag the boundary between name and date to expand the name column so the filenames don't get cut off.

If the information shown in the program isn't up to date, just click "refresh" to fix that.   back to top
